He was a staff Sgt and US bomber mechanic.Bomber crews lives depended on the skill and diligence of their ground crews. Ground Crew constantly maintained the large, complex bombers. They repaired battle damage, and performed modifications to make the aircraft more effective. Ground crew had the difficult task of making sure that not only was the aircraft they were assigned ready for the mission, but also that it would carry the crew to the mission destination and back.
Work was carried out at all hrs of the day and night, and under all weather conditions. Ground Crew engineering specialists were essential for our eventual victory.
